Pool Water loss can have serious short and long term implications, from increasing running costs to serious subsidence, leading to possible costly pool shell and building damage. Pools can naturally lose water for some perfectly acceptable reasons, whilst other water loss could be due to wear and tear or failure of pool pipework, equipment, pool shell or liner issues. Losing more than 25-30mm of water per week could indicate a probable leak.
*Leak detection is a highly specialized and quite complex job, we would recommend that it is only to be carried out by professionals registered MISPE and SPATA associated.
Some Common Causes of pool water loss:
> Evaporation – Caused when the temperature of the pool water surface is above the air temperature.
> Wind speed across the water surface will effect outdoor pools, whilst air humidity can effect indoor and out pools.
> Sealant deterioration.
> Chemical corrosion.
> Fracturing of pool shell due to ground movement.
> Pipe work & fittings – over time pipe work and fittings became brittle and are easily fractured or broken.
> Back washing – water loss when cleaning filters, this is perhaps the most significant natural water loss.
> Water loss outside of the pool due to bathers exiting the pool/splashing.
